What To Do If You Find Mistakes On Your Credit Report

Friday, August 28th, 2009

If you’re checking your credit report regularly, you should be looking for more than your credit score. You should also check for mistakes on your credit report and make sure all the information is accurate. If you find a mistake on your credit report, you will want to file a dispute with the three credit reporting bureaus. By law, the credit reporting bureaus are required to address your dispute within 30 days. Sometimes the credit reporting agency can come to a quick resolution, but other times, it may take longer to come to an agreement with the lender. Either way, watch your credit report very carefully for any false information and file a dispute immediately.

Identity Theft Nightmare (The Today Show)

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Interesting segment from the Today Show

If your wallet is stolen:

File a police report;

Start keeping detailed records including the names, dates, and phone numbers of people you’ve reported this theft to;

Report all your credit cards as stolen so that you are issued new cards with new account numbers.

(Most credit card companies will automatically place a fraud alert in your credit report on your behalf when you notify them of a stolen card);

FREEZE all three of your credit reports–do not rely on the theft alert alone, as it will not fully protect you from having accounts opened in your name, that is something only a full credit report freeze will do;

Subscribe to a credit monitoring service (if it is available with a frozen report). These services supposedly provide insurance in the event you are a victim–not many people can afford to lay out $50,000 in legal fees and that is where ID Theft Insurance will come in handy, uming your homeowner’s policy doesn’t already offer this type of coverage.

MYFICO, Equifax, Transunion and Experian all offer credit report monitoring (some of these services are made available to those who’ve already frozen their files).

Also, as in the case of this victim, you may want to alter your banking habits. The thief in this case supposedly managed to withdraw funds and write bad checks using the victim’s driver’s license.

Sign up for email alerts on all your accounts so you can catch unusual activity before it gets out of hand.

Get a Motor Vehicle record abstract which will confirm your clean driving record and should list all cars currently registered to your name. This will be helpful If the thief manages to get a copy of your license and gets moving violations or buys a car (on credit) in your name.

The abstract may come in handy if you are arrested for contempt of court by not showing up for a hearing for any moving or parking violations issued to the thief in your name.

The only way to help prove that you did not get those tickets is to show that the abstract was clean before the theft.

You can also inquire about getting a new driver’s license number.

I would love to know why no mention was made of the arrest of the woman caught posing as this victim?

Assuming she was caught in the act, that alone should have cleared this victim of any crime.

Protect Yourself From Identity Theft With a Credit Freeze

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

A proactive way to prevent identity theft is to freeze your credit file with the three credit reporting bureaus, Equifax, TransUnion and Experian. Freezing your credit file means no one can open a new account. It does not close your exisitng lines of credit, but it means that no one can open a new credit account or line of credit. If you’re young and trying to open lines of credit to establish your credit history you probably don’t want to freeze your credit file. However, seniors who don’t need to open more lines of credit and maybe have paid off their mortgage can consider freezing their credit to prevent possible identity theft. Also, consider freezing your credit if you think your personal information was compromised and you’re at risk for identity theft.

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

IDENTITY THEFT PREVENTION: How to prevent ID Theft with nothing but your telephone.

Listen. You don’t need identity theft insurance. It’s a joke. Have you ever read the guarantees on those things? Has more holes in it than swiss cheese.

All they’re doing is charging you to do what you can do yourself. We’re not talking about you doing your own root canal here. Were talking about making a some phone calls… and then setting a reminder on outlook express to make 1 phone call every 90 days. It’s a joke. You don’t need to pay $150 a year (or more) for Identity Theft Insurance. Well, maybe you do, if you want to support someone in an MLM or Network Marketing Company (maybe).

Hey, I’ve bought crazy juices, vitamins even a dumb water filter just to get my friends to quit bugging me about their MLM opportunities before. I admit it! There you go. But when it comes to ID THEFT PREVENTION, that’s different.

You can do it better yourself. Just watch BOTH videos parts 1 and 2. Together they are worth a couple hundred bucks. No kidding!

Listen. You’re going to learn how to get your credit reports not once a year but twice a year - FOR FREE! Not only that. No one is going to be able to get approved for ANY credit ANYWHERE without the creditor first calling you at the telephone number on your credit report! How you like them apples? and… were just getting started.

You’re also going to learn how to protect yourself from all the people (like in hospitals in dental offices) who have your Social Security Number (SSN) and your Date of Birth (DOB) not too mention your address and phone number and drivers licenses number….

Listen… this is worth your time. be sure to watch part 1 and part 2. The Identity you save could be your own! And while you;re at it please RATE THIS VIDEO and share it with others. They’ll appreciate it and you might even get some GOOD KARMA points to boot!

Thank for your support. It is appreciated.
