Are credit repair companies legit and do they really help?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

I am trying to raise my credit score quickly. Right now I am at 593-around 650 depending on agency. So, by paying off the 5 credit cards that I currently have(some with amounts ranging from 1,500-2,500), should that raise my credit score a great deal? If not, will a credit repair company help or are they just a scam?

Is it worth having virus protection on a mac?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

I have had Virus Protection on my mac laptop, as I always had when I had a PC. All my fellow mac owners say it’s not worth renewing it when it expires?

At the present time it is not worth renewing. It slows your Mac down. There hasn’t been a released MacOs X virus since 2006. The current handful of Mac trojans require you to download them & install them with your admin password. They are in fake software (poker game, malware remover, antivirus, HD viewer & porn viewer), they are also attached to illegal torrents of iWorks 09 and Photoshop CS4. There are over 1,000,000 Windows viruses which do not affect your Mac. iAntivirus is free and just checks for the 7 Mac trojans so it works very quickly. ClamXav is free and also checks for all the Windows viruses and that can take awhile. You cannot catch anything on a Mac by visiting a website, clicking on an ad or opening an email, like you can on a Windows computer. So you are relatively safe. The doom & gloom Windows users who keep warning "Watch Out!" for those Mac viruses having been doing that for 5 years, ignore them.

Can I report a hacking site anonymously to the FBI?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

If I wanted to report a site that has hacking tips
and methods on everything legal and illegal
that you can think of how would I report them
to say the FBI anonymously so no one knows
who reported it? Or so that no one can trace
it back to me?
I am not a part of this site.

One of my websites were hacked
and the dumb***
Defaced it and mentioned he
was from the site in question.

Really the closest thing to anonymity would be to call them from a payphone nowhere near your house and report it but refuse to give your information, or go online at the library and try to report it online. They can track where it came from but don’t know exactly who it was from that phone that called since it’s a public payphone.

They respect your right to privacy but they may still request your information if you want them to take this seriously. Remember, it’s the FBI…they will keep your info secret and protect your identity if that’s what you’re worried about. If you’re just worried about getting busted for being on the site, then I must ask why you are trying to report a site you are a part of and say that’s not a very smart thing to do.

Do credit repair companies really work?

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

I want to repair my bad credit and have been doing some research on some of these credit repair companies. They all sound to good to be true! The majority of the items are old accounts, nothing major like a BK or Forclosure.
Has anyone had any success with using a credit repair company?

Credit Scores And Credit Repair

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

You may have often wondered that when exactly does the need to repair your credit arise. It is when your credit report is not up to the mark and precisely when your credit scores are below par that adopting credit repair measures become a must for you. You may often get to learn this when your application for a mortgage/loan grant is rejected outright by the lenders. The ground for rejection may be stated to be your holding of bad or poor credit as indicated by your poor credit score.

Among the various documents about your personal finances (recording your earnings, monthly expenses and debts) the credit report is of special significance. The details about your financial history, payment records, total debts and bankruptcies are analyzed to work out your credit score of FICO score. This is a composite number- a numerical rating as provided by Fair Isaac and Company.

The FICO scores may range from 300 to 900 with most people’s score lying somewhere between 600 and 700. FICO scores below 550 are regarded to be below par and are considered to be indicators of poor or bad credit holding. The higher the credit score the lesser is the need for credit repair or credit reestablishment. Higher credit scores will simply enhance your appeal in the eyes of the prospective lenders and creditors while lower credit scores will only beget their disapproval for any loan application.

While undertaking a credit repair venture you need to first know about the factors which affect the credit scores. Broadly speaking, it is the length of time you have held bad credit and outstanding debts and methods to repay this which influence credit scores. Credit scores are also dependent on how close you are to your credit limits and problems with credit like late payments, bankruptcies, tax liens etc. The number of your delinquencies and their frequency are also taken into account while determining the value of the score. Taking care to ensure that these factors are well attended to will ensure that the credit score- a resultant of these input factors emerges as a decent number.

Some steps can be taken up as credit repair efforts. Finding credit cards being used no more and closing the accounts related, settling outstanding accounts and paying out your bills and debts on time to reduce outstanding credit will have a positive impact on your credit.

However, you must bear in mind that poor credit scores may even be the effect of errors contained in your credit report. So, procuring a credit report beforehand and verifying and correcting errors timely will be a good measure of credit report rectification of importance in adjudging the need for credit repair.

Mobile Phone Attack

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

If you own either a Windows Mobile or Symbian Series 60 smart phone,it will soon be hit by a virus.According to McAfee,a security solutions company, the number of malware programs created for mobile devices is expected to reach 726 by the end of 2006,a three-fold increase from 226 last year.

“Malware on handsets is following the same pattern that was observed on desktops,” Today, people create viruses for financial gain.”

The first generation of viruses are really the proof-of-concept variety. Here are some examples.

In 2000,the Timifonica virus infected PCs to send harmless text messages to cell phones. That’s about all it did.The cabir worm (1994) spread between Symbian Series 60 phones through open Bluetooth connections Cabir spreads as infected SIS package called caribe.sis.

Commwarrior also spreads over Bluetooth via MMS,but spreads quite fast.It copies itself on to memory card that is inserted into the infected phone. It will also infect SIS executable files in the phone or memory card.It just announces itself within the browser window.

SymbOS.Skulls is a Trojan horse that changes all the application icons on a symbian phone to skull icons.

The redBrowser Trojan, which infects J2ME phones, promises to let you surf WAP-based web sites without a WAP connection. When active it sends SMS message to premium rate numbers at the rate of $5 - $6 per SMS.

There are Trojans that steal address book information and send them to hacker via SMS or MMS.Some look for infotmation such as stored passwords or sensitive information in spreadsheets. And some overwrite the system software in the phone, causing it to reset itself or behave strangely.

The next generation of viruses will target users who use their phones for financial transactions and mobile banking.

Protection

There are a couple of ways to protect handsets.Firstly,do turn off the Bluetooth mode and switch it on only when exchanging files. If you must have Bluetooth on,then switch it to the hidden mode.It is more difficult to write viruses to penetrate phones that are in the hidden Bluetooth mode.

Most security software makers such as Symantec,Mcafee,F-Secure,Trend Micro and others offer mobile security solutions that self-update.The agent module running on the phone was able to find and quarantine viruses in real-time.It has on-demand scanning too,and can update itself automatically.

At about $40,the protection is well worth it.Think about how much you’d have to pay a service center to restore your phone after a virus attack.

Remember how “I Love You” spread around the world in few hours?Imagine something similar happening on mobile devices. It would be a lot faster and lethal.
